Monroe College
Congratulations Monroe College graduates on your successful completion of the nursing program! You are embarking into a profession that is steeped in tradition. The nursing pin represents a 1000 year old symbol of service to others. From the crusaders use of a pin to represent Christianity, to a family coat of arms to represent service to a ruler, to the Renaissance guilders' use of a pin to represent masterful service to the community, the pin continues to be the symbol of service to others. One hundred years ago hospital school of nursing students were given pins to identify they were educated to serve the health care needs of society. Today the nursing pin symbolizes the completion of a rigorous and demanding nursing program, and although the symbol of the pin represents your School of Nursing, the symbolic message of service to others is not lost. This pin is physical evidence that represents the professional history and heritage of nursing. Each nursing pin is distinctive and represents only your school. Wear your pin with honor and pride. Pass on the tradition, and welcome to the profession of nursing.
